Our Why: Inspiring the Next Generation of Polar Scientists
The Polar Regions are remote and inaccessible parts of the world, which are poorly understood by many. Education Through Expeditions (ETE) provides a unique opportunity to train future polar scientists and engage global audiences about the polar regions and environmental issues.
ETE is a concept that promotes experiential learning by using real-world expeditions and adventures as a means of education. These expeditions can take various forms, such as polar explorations, mountaineering, ocean voyages, or other challenging journeys. The primary goal is to provide students and learners with hands-on experiences and practical knowledge that goes beyond traditional classroom learning.
Education Through Expeditions offers a wide range of benefits, including fostering a sense of curiosity and exploration, teaching valuable life skills, and instilling a deeper understanding of the natural world and its conservation. Antony Jinman, an advocate for using expeditions as educational tools, established the organisation “Education Through Expeditions” to put this approach into action. His programs aim to inspire and educate the next generation of scientists and emphasise the importance of environmental stewardship and sustainability.
